Azay le Rideau is a small town in the Loire Valley located on the banks of the Indre river, and is 25km south west of Tours and 20km east of Chinon. Azay-le-Rideau is best known for its splendid Renaissance Chateau, surrounded on three sides by the tree-lined river. As well as the impressive Chateau, the town also boasts a church with a number of interesting original architectural features. such as the well-preserved 9th-century facade complete with carved features and statues.
Azay-le-Rideau is a great base for visitors to explore the surrounding area and the other breathtaking Loire Chateaux nearby.
OTHER ACTIVITIES Whilst in Azay-le-Rideau, visitors should make sure they visit the town's spectacular Renaissance Chateau and ancient church. The Chateau d' Azay-le-Rideau dates back to the 16th-century, and is on the UNESCO World Heritge List. Throughout July and August, the Chateau is open to visitors until 7pm every day, giving you plenty of time to explore its towers and turrets! Azay-le-Rideau is the perfect base to explore the Loire by bike, with numerous cycle paths along the banks of the Indre river and flat terrain to lure even the most reluctant of cyclists onto two wheels. The town also has a range of shops and restaurants to suits all tastes and budgets.
